Mr. Catalin Cristian SIMOTA has graduate College of Physics, University of Bucharest, 1975. Ph.D., Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, Bucharest, 1998.

Main activites and responsibilities:

  • Manager of research projects and responsible of research themes regarding simulation of mass and energy processes in soils; evaluating the agriculture rural policy actions impact on soil resources and rural development;
  • Member in international teams in FP4-FP6 projects;
  • Vulnerability of agriculture to global changes;
  • Risk to agro-physical soil degradation (compaction, wind and water erosion);
  • Designation of Nitrate Vulnerable Zones and elaboration of Action Plans in Nitrate Vulnerable Zones;

International Projects :

  • Radioactive tracers techniques used for research on water and pollutants dynamics in soils with preferential pathways as related to irrigation and drainage projects. AIEA (Vienna) Project 4814/RB, 1988-1990;
  • Development and application of improved numerical methods for the estimation of soil physical data and their spatial and temporal extrapolation in spatially-distributed agro-climatic modeling. EC Project ERB-CIPD-CT930022, 1992-1994;

Dr. Irina Carmen CALCIU

Mrs. Irina CALCIU has graduate University of Agricultural Science and Veterinary Medicine, Bucharest - Faculty of Land Improvement and Environment Protection; Ph.D., University of Agricultural Science and Veterinary Medicine, Bucharest, 1998 - 2009, Use in agriculture of composts prepared from sewage sludge and household refuse.

Main activites and responsibilities:

  • Manager and responsible of research projects related to protection, mitigation and conservation measures of agro-physical state of soils affected by degradation processes, methodologies for risk assessment to agro-physical soil degradation;
  • Responsible of research projects related to nitrogen behavior in soil-water-plant-animal system, evaluation of nitrogen balance taking into account the farm gate inputs and outputs and local conditions;
  • Collaborator within Calist Program "National soil standards elaboration", in the group of translating and writing out of ISO soil physics standards;
  • Coordinator of a research project financed by Ministry of Education and Research related aiming on changes of factors, regimes and processes in soil and its effect on crop yield for mitigation and conservation soil affected by physical degradation processes;
  • Collaborator within National Program for Monitoring - studies on evaluation of agricultural soils physical quality in Romania;
  • Responsible of the research theme regarding to residual organic products (urban and animal refuse), especially of solid consistency, characteristics, effects on soils and crop yield - studies in field and controlled regime
