Description (what, how, where and when): We will build up an integrated database, concerning nutrient balances and different climatic and hydrologic conditions of the study region which is the Barlad river basin. The data identification, collection and analysis will be carried out within the first 19 months of the project, by all project’s partners. This action includes also field assessments on large - scale plots (e.g. farmer’s wells) aiming at the completion of existing time series for nutrient pollution assessments.
The results of the data identification and collection processes are data and information of different kind: digital (different formats and programs) and printed (written), which needs digitization.
The nutrient load from diffuse sources depends on land use within sub-catchment area. For evaluation of nutrient load from different kind of land use we will use Corinne Land Cover digital map and LCCS information. Load of nutrients will be analyzed at the scale of sub-catchments, binding of characteristic concentrations of nitrogen and phosphorus in main stream with possible sources of nutrients in the catchments area. Therefore the main problem and the ultimate activity will be to aggregate available information and data at level of sub-catchments (typically, information is collected and codified at the level of administrative territories that is not possible to address directly at level of sub-catchments or even larger single catchment, boundaries of which as a rule do not correspond with administrative borders).
All information, combined with scenario analyses of future impacts of water pollution loads, based on dynamic modeling under climate change scenarios, will allow the formulation of predictions and pinpoint potential future problem areas.
